Episode 1

EXT. THE CASTLE OF THE BEAST--NIGHT

The rain is pouring. The sky above the castle is beginning to glow.

EXT. the BALCONY OF THE CASTLE--NIGHT

The BEAST's dying body rises from the bricks before BELLE's awestruck, tear stained, face. He is enveloped in a cloud of light, and becomes wrapped in his cloak. Underneath, we can see BEAST's body shifting and forming. A fore paw comes out and the claws turn into fingers. A hind paw emerges and develops into a foot. Finally, a wind blows across his face and the fur melts away to reveal a young prince. He gradually descends and is laid on the floor again. The gloom surrounding the castle disappears, revealing a blue sky. The castle is transformed, with the gargoyles changing into cherubs.

EXT. THE CASTLE OF THE BEAST--NIGHT

The entire scene darkens and the castle appears in it's former state. Super impose across the bottom of the screen .....Several Days Earlier.

EXT. THE VILLAGE--NIGHT

A STRANGER rides into the village. He is dressed all in black with long cloak, broad hat, knee-high leather riding boots, and belt with six pistols, a sword, and long knife hung from it.

He will have a horse who will play the role of Brother-in-arms and confidant. Name: TONNERRE

The stranger enters the tavern where GASTON and his CRONIES are gathered.

INT. THE TAVERN--NIGHT

Stranger orders a drink. Gaston is pacing back and forth.

CRONY 1
You ought to relax, Gaston. They can't stay away forever.

GASTON
I can't relax. I keep wondering if they haven't left town for good. Maybe she's got a beau someplace else.

CRONY 2
Well, it's not like anyone could compete with you.

GASTON
Perhaps not, but Belle's an odd sort. She may be playing this game just to see how serious I am. My mother did something like this to my father, once, you know.

BEGIN FLASHBACK

EXT. THE VILLAGE--NIGHT

GASTON'S MOTHER, a haggard looking blond woman, old beyond her years, hurries through the street with her young son in tow.

GASTON
(V.O.)
When I was four, she stole me away in the middle of the night and hauled me all the way to the next province before Father finally caught up with us. Mother had just put me to bed in the back room of an inn when Father came in.

INT. A BEDROOM IN AN INN-- NIGHT

Four-year-old Gaston wakes up in bed and looks towards the door to the room where shouting is heard and shadows shift back and forth in the light that comes from under it.

GASTON
(V.O. CON'T)
They started shouting and didn't stop until Papa came into the room and got me.

GASTON'S FATHER, a tall muscular man with black hair, mustache, and beard, bursts into the room and pulls young Gaston from the bed. Young Gaston is in a nightshirt.

GASTON
(V.O. CON'T)
He hauled us both out to a cart he had waiting.

EXT. THE FRONT OF THE INN-- NIGHT

Gaston's father pulls a fully clothed young Gaston by the arm from the front door of the inn and toward a wagon.

GASTON
(V.O. CON'T)
Mother was asleep, too, and bruised. She'd had too much excitement and walked into a door jamb, at least that's what Papa said.

Gaston's mother lies down in the back of the wagon with a badly blackened eye.

GASTON
(V.O. CON'T)
He drove us both home in his wagon that night and that was the end of it.

END FLASHBACK

INT. THE TAVERN--NIGHT

GASTON
Papa told me whenever I asked about it that sometimes women need a demonstration of how much we men love them. 'Sometimes, we have to pound it into them.' That's what he used to say. That's probably what Belle needs right now.

CRONY 1
Aye, well said.

He turns to the others, raises his stein, and shouts

CRONY 1(CON'T)
To Gaston!

The others all raise their steins and shout

OTHERS
GASTON!!

Gaston picks his ale up off the table, leans against the mantle staring into the fire and takes a long pull. LEFOU enters the Inn. Gaston spits his drink directly into the fire causing the flames to leap dangerously.

GASTON
(shouting)
LEFOU!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!! I TOLD YOU NOT TO LEAVE MAURICE'S PLACE!!

LEFOU
Relax Gaston. I left my cousin Jacques standing guard and came into town to get some supplies. It looks like it's gonna be a long wait.

Lefou turns to the Innkeeper

LEFOU(CON'T)
One beer and a bottle, please, and a basket of food.

GASTON
(controlling his voice)
Lefou, your cousin is about as reliable as the weather. I told you to stay at that place until they got back and I meant it.

LEFOU
Hey, take it easy, Gaston. It's like I said. There hasn't been the slightest sign in hours. If I'm going to be out there for a while, I'll want to have some supplies. I may even have to build a fire.

At this, Gaston grows visibly angrier

LEFOU
But, don't worry Gaston, I'll be right back out there as soon as I get some food

He receives a tankard and bottle from the innkeeper

LEFOU(CON'T)
and drink.
(smiles and snickers)

GASTON
(Forcibly calm)
Lefou, You told me you'd help me win Belle. Has that changed?

Lefou turns to look at Gaston

LEFOU
Well, of course not, Gaston. I'm still your friend, I just....

GASTON
(Closes in as he says)
Then Get Out TO THAT HOUSE AND KEEP THAT WATCH!! I'M TRYING TO BUILD A LIFE, A FUTURE, FOR MYSELF

He knocks things over while backing Lefou into a wall

GASTON(CON'T)
AND IF YOU INTEND TO HELP ME, YOU CAN START BY DOING WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO!!

He grabs Lefou's tankard and sends it hurtling into the fire which again leaps dangerously. The tankard leaves a trail of liquor across the floor. which catches a spark from the fire and burns its way back across the floor to set fire to the seat of Lefou's pants. Lefou leaps around with his pants on fire until he douses them in a wash bucket. The innkeeper holds out the basket for Lefou which Gaston grabs and winds up to throw.

GASTON(CON'T)
NOW TAKE YOUR FOOD AND GET OUT!!

He throws the basket. Lefou cowers expecting the impact but a black leather clad hand snakes out in front of him and catches it, a hand which belongs to the stranger. The Stranger hands the basket to Lefou

STRANGER
You'd better do it, sir, before he levels the place.

LEFOU
(Snickering nervously)
Uh, Thanks Stranger. Good-bye, now.

Lefou Races out the door with his basket.

Gaston locks eyes with the stranger.

GASTON
(Visibly enraged.)
Is there something... wrong?!

The Stranger leans back against the bar and takes a drink

STRANGER
I don't know why there should be.

GASTON
Listen stranger, I don't like it when anyone steps between me and what I want. I'd suggest you keep that in mind.

STRANGER
Well, I've never been very good at taking suggestions.

GASTON
Really?

STRANGER
Really.

GASTON
Well then

He draws back his fist and throws a mighty punch which the stranger easily dodges causing Gaston to hit a heavy iron frying pan on the wall behind the stranger.

GASTON
AARRRRGH!!!!!

STRANGER
Ooh, that had to hurt.

Two of Gaston's cronies try to sneak up behind the Stranger

GASTON
WHY YOU .... I'LL..!

Gaston heaves a chair up over his head and strikes at the stranger who this time steps deftly aside allowing Gaston to smash his two cronies. Gaston takes another swing at the stranger with what's left of the shattered chair. The stranger again dodges and this time Gaston knocks a tankard to the floor which spills ale all over the floor again. This puddle also catches fire and singes a young child near it. Gaston turns to the stranger with a look of hot rage on his face which dissolves into a shocked expression when he finds himself facing the stranger's sword.

STRANGER
(quietly and menacing)
You had better be ready to commit to this fully, farmhand, because if this proceeds any further, I can guarantee that only one of us is going to walk away from it.

Stranger backs Gaston into the table that his tankard is on. Gaston reaches down for his blunderbuss

GASTON
I'll show you who's a farmhand!

Before Gaston can raise the gun, the sword drops and Gaston instead finds himself looking down the barrel of a flintlock pistol which is held in the stranger's other hand.

STRANGER
(snarling, growls)
You feel like dying today? I feel like dying today! Let's die!

Gaston is visibly shaken by this comment and replaces the gun which the stranger tosses off into the corner with the point of his sword

GASTON
All right, All right. I suppose there's no point in continuing this. I guess I can let you off the hook this time.

STRANGER
(growling again)
You're all heart. Enjoy your drink, FARMHAND.
(Shoves Gaston as he says that last word)

The stranger spins on his heel and stalks from the inn before anyone can react. He doesn't sheathe either weapon.

GASTON
(muttering)
Lunatic.

Many of the patrons nod their heads in assent with Gaston and the conversation rapidly turns against the stranger.

EXT. THE VILLAGE--NIGHT

The stranger sheathes his weapons after exiting the tavern, stalks out to his horse, and untethers him.

STRANGER
(to horse)
Come, old friend, We've business  tonight.

The Stranger mounts his horse and trots out of the village.

EXT. THE FOREST--NIGHT

Just outside the village the horse halts and cocks his head back to look sternly at his rider

STRANGER
(surly)
Yes, I let him get to me! What? YOU'D have missed him? YOU'D HAVE BEEN ALONE!!

Horse narrows eyes

STRANGER(CON'T)
I could have taken them. I could have taken ALL of them. There couldn't have been more than fifty men in that village. I could have torn them ALLL
(near roar) apart! There would have been no one to stop me. Least of all that big meaty ox with the loud mouth. He would have made a FINE meal.

He breathes heavily for a few seconds

STRANGER(CON'T)
...and then the villagers would have poured out of their houses and torn me to pieces... then they would have mourned that...CRETIN like some beloved brother... mourned him... One who's probably never had anything for them besides beatings and cruelty. And I,  Tonnerre, I am the one who's cursed.  Am I wrong, old friend? Am I really wrong to feel this way?

Horse snorts derisively. Stranger sobers somewhat

STRANGER(CON'T)
Their children would have missed them though. Their wives... Oh well I suppose it's my fault for passing through that village in the first place. I should know better than to pass through any village on this journey. Let's hurry along.

They ride quietly for several more miles into far denser and darker woods until they come to a clearing carpeted with grass and snow. The clearing is bordered on one side by a stream.

EXT. THE CLEARING WITH THE STREAM - NIGHT

STRANGER
Here's the spot.

the Stranger dismounts, unsaddles his horse, and takes off the bridle.

STRANGER(CON'T)
You think you'll be all right here by yourself again.

Tonnerre stamps his foot and snorts.

STRANGER(CON'T)
Yeah, well, much as everyone else worries about me and my ... problem, I worry more about what I might do to others when I .. change. You especially. You're the closest.

horse snorts again.

STRANGER(CON'T)
You just stay safe, old friend.
(face darkens)
It's time.

the Stranger walks across the stream, through an odd hedge of flowers on the other side, and sits down on a log next to a hollow stump

STRANGER(CON'T)
See you in a few days.

He waves and the horse stamps and nods then bends down to eat some grass.

The Stranger pulls off his boots and places them inside the stump and then proceeds to take off his cape, hat, gloves, shirt, and belt with his weapons and pack them in his cape which he then places in the stump on top of his boots. The Stranger then turns around and hikes barefoot to the top of a rise which looks out over a desolate and heavily wooded valley.

EXT. THE RISE-NIGHT

The sky is dark and there's only a small clump of clouds just above the horizon. These clouds soon dissipate to reveal the full moon. At the sight of the moon, the Stranger's appearance begins to change. His lips pull back from his teeth which begin to elongate and sharpen. His brow becomes fleshy and furry. His nose and lips elongate out into a powerful snout. His ears lengthen and sharpen and move upward on his skull so that they look lupine. His entire body grows proportionately. Thick fur breaks out all over him and his hands and feet grow long sharp claws. His transformation complete, the WEREWOLF unleashes a loud half-human, half-lupine, howl to the moon. and races off into the woods to hunt. Fade out.

INT. CHATEAU DE LA BROUILLARD - NIGHT

the ENCHANTRESS, late 30's early 40's, dressed in a green gown with her long blond hair draped upon her shoulders and a golden crown on her brow. Her eyes are the same shade as her dress but have a very wizened sheen to them and her face has a constantly smug look to it. She sits watching the Stranger through her divination crystal on a throne of white stone at the center of a room made of similar stone.

ENCHANTRESS
(angrily)
You have learned NOTHING, Marcel! NOTHING!! As your child tyrant prince has learned nothing! As your people continue to learn nothing!; And we are expected to fight for your kind. Even as you fight each other over the most ridiculous of reasons! Or spend your entire lives in pursuit of the stagnation you call normalcy!... Or take whatever you want from whatever or whoever you choose and never give anything back unless forced to! PAH!
(Her face grows more and more contemptuous as she speaks)
How can we live along side you when your race will probably consume itself in two or three hundred more years?

The image in the crystal changes to that of a coldly beautiful woman with a very bitter expression on her face.

ENCHANTRESS(CON'T)
and you, Lisette, dear Lisette. Fifteen years of accumulated power and you still can find nothing better to do with it than heap grief upon a Prince's family. All this time and your life is still consumed by past wrongs unforgiven. I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose. You never did deal well with frustration. Still, fifteen years is a long time for even you to hold a grudge. I would have thought you'd have been satisfied with the spell I called down upon the boy, but even that isn't enough for you, is it. No, you simply will not be satisfied until you have visited upon the Prince the fate you had in store for his father. I suppose that is why you continually send your Darkwolves to plague the forests surrounding the Chateau de la Bete. Hmph. Pathetic!

Image changes yet again to image of Belle and the Beast dancing. The Enchantress' expression softens somewhat.

ENCHANTRESS(CON'T)
And. then, of course, there is you, little Belle. If there is one person in this entire land who could possibly prove me wrong about your race, it is you. An almost perfect combination of beauty, intelligence, and courage you are though I'd wager there's at least a small amount of arrogance in you. You are truly a rare person. The prince is certainly smitten with you. Yes, I'd say that if there is one factor which could untangle this entire magical miasma, It is you.

The frame narrows onto the crystal until the scene seems to change to that of the Beasts castle and then the image turns a shade darker and the frame widens again to that of another divination crystal which is also a shade darker.

INT. TOUR DE ROCNOIR-NIGHT

Lisette, Late 20's, the woman who had been viewed by the Enchantress a few moments earlier, is clad in a black waistcoat, cloak, and skirt with a white blouse. The blouse is the only thing in the room whiter than her face which is deathly pale. She wears a bright red gem on her chest which glows. Her lips and hair are both jet black and her green eyes blaze with a madness that is quite obviously long cultivated.

The room is circular and made of carved, black, stone blocks with a raised circular dais in the center upon which sits the crystal and the woman's throne. The floor is covered with various multi-colored, geometric shapes which are either circumscribed around the dais in the center or around other shapes. The walls are lined with shelves, some with large volumes on them and others with various jars filled with preserved substances or objects. There are also several specimens mounted on the walls in various states of display. Some are entire animals stuffed. Some are only parts of animals also stuffed. Others are simply skulls nailed to the wall.

WORM, a green scaly gremlin about the size of a monkey sits next to her hissing.

Lisette waves her hand brusquely causing the vision to dissipate then pounds harshly on the arm of her chair.

LISETTE
I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS!!! TEN YEARS I'VE WATCHED OVER THAT CASTLE, FRUSTRATING THAT BRATS EVERY EFFORT TO BREAK THE SPELL!!! I WILL NOT HAVE MY VENGEANCE FOILED BY A MEWLING LITTLE...CHILD WITH A HEART FULL OF INNOCENCE AND A HEAD FULL OF DREAMS!!!

The crystal flares.

LISETTE(CON'T)
WHAT?

The crystal shows a picture of Belle looking into the mirror.

LISETTE(CON'T)
So he's letting you use the mirror, is he? What would you need to see little one.

The crystal shows the picture of Maurice lost in the forest. The crystal transmits Belles reaction to this.

LISETTE(CON'T)
So, that sorry old man is your father is he. Yes, I CAN still have my revenge. How likely are you to fall in love with the Beast while mourning your father's death?

Lisette turns to the gremlin

LISETTE(CON'T)
Worm! Summon the Darkwolves! All of them! Send them to the forest surrounding the Chateau de la Bete. Tell them to kill anyone they find there! By dawn I don't want a single living thing in those woods walking on two legs!

The gremlin hisses a response and races up a small tunnel and lets loose a grotesque howl.

EXT. TOUR DE ROCNOIR--NIGHT

This howl summons dozens of wolves howling in response. Worm repeats Lisette's instructions in a perfect rendition of her own voice. The wolves howl again and a large jet-black wolf with burning red eyes leads the rest off toward the Chateau. The gremlin returns to Lisette.

INT. TOUR DE ROCNOIR-NIGHT

WORM
It'sss done, Missstressss.

LISETTE
(Smiles cruelly)
Excellent Worm. Soon, all I have ever striven for will be at my fingertips. The power and riches of the world will be laid out before me like a banquet. and my enemies shall squirm like rodents beneath my heel. It shall be sweet to...

She reaches to scratch an itch on her arm and finds that she has broken out in scales

LISETTE
(screams)
AAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!

The crystal flashes brightly and the image of a hideous DEMON rises laughing up out of it. Worm shrieks and dives behind the throne hiding his head in his claws, trembling. The Demon leers cruelly at Lisette and floats directly up into her face. Lisette, visibly terrified, clutches white knuckled to her seat and gapes wide-eyed at the image.

DEMON
(Chuckling)
Always so quick to forget your loyalties, aren't you Lisette,

The Demon points a long-clawed finger at her face.

DEMON(CON'T)
so swift to gloat over the efforts of others.

The demon uses his claw to cut through the left shoulder of her waistcoat. It falls forward. The blouse below is untouched.

DEMON(CON'T)
Have you forgotten who is the source of all your power,-

The demon cuts through the right shoulder of her waistcoat. The blouse is again uncut.

DEMON(CON'T)
-who taught you how to create and control the Darkwolves,-

The demon slices open her waistcoat from her naval to just beneath the ruby. Again without cutting the blouse

DEMON(CON'T)
-who gave you the ability the call down spells?

The demon cuts open her blouses collar at the neck

DEMON(CON'T)
Have you forgotten to whom you owe everything you are?

The Demon slides the claw up under her chin and lifts her face.

DEMON(CON'T)
HAVE YOU?!!!!

LISETTE
(Trembling)
No Lord.
(shuddering at the last word)

DEMON
Goooood.
(leering again)

Now then, my dear, as soon as your plan is complete, the countryside's citizenry will be in a perfect position to become my followers. When I finally gain my foothold on this world, I will begin enslaving its populace as soon as possible. You, Lisette, shall aid me in this unless of course you have forgotten our bargain.

LISETTE
(nervously)
No, lord of course not.

The Demon pokes her in the chest with a clawed finger.

DEMON
Indulge me, my dear. Outline that bargain for me.

LISETTE
In return for the power and aid you have given me, I will cast the proper spells to allow you to manifest yourself on this world and then help you to establish yourself here.

DEMON
AND... What happens if you fail in any part of this?

Demon leers even more cruelly

LISETTE
Then... my body and soul.. are forfeit.

DEMON
Correct. I shouldn't have to remind you, my dear, what I would do with you then: burn you in eternal flames, eat you alive from the inside out, though I would probably begin by turning you into something reptilian. You wouldn't like that, would you, my dear?

Lisette shudders holding her arm

DEMON
Hmpf, I might even marry you. Oh, listen to me: babbling on like some angry insect. I apologize for this display my dear. I was a bit too severe.

LISETTE
It was nothing.

DEMON
You're too kind. Now then, my dear, I shall leave you to your schemes. There are many things which must be done on this end for the bargain to be completed. You won't forget your loyalties, will you my dear?
(smiles sweetly)

LISETTE
(Miserably)
No lord.

DEMON
Goooood. Farewell.

The image fades away and the crystal darkens. Lisette looks down and sees that the scales have disappeared from her arm. She buries her head in her hands.

EXT. A GLEN--NIGHT

The Werewolf is stalking a deer which is grazing on the scraggly grass which is left over from the snowfall the night before. The Werewolf moves through the snow soundlessly; slowly getting closer to the deer. Suddenly, the shadows seem to come alive and dozens of Darkwolves descend upon the glen. The deer is quickly surrounded and overrun. The Werewolf is surrounded and attacked but fights harshly. Many Darkwolves are thrown into the surrounding tree trunks. Many others are grabbed and smashed brutally together by the Werewolf. Still others are intercepted in mid-spring and slammed mightily to ground. Some are simply struck down by the Werewolf's powerful paws. The Darkwolves that don't get up from the Werewolf's blows immediately begins to dissolve into nothingness. They look much like tar melting but don't leave a stain. After the Werewolf has dispatched about a dozen of them, the pack leader lets out a howl, calling the Darkwolves to the far side of the glen. They all move out as quickly as they moved in and leave the Werewolf standing snarling by itself. The Werewolf looks over at the deer and sees that the Darkwolves have completely skeletonized it. Furious, it takes off in pursuit, running prone instead off erect for speed sake.

EXT. THE FOREST--NIGHT

MAURICE makes his way to the castle determined to free his daughter. He uses a sextant, maps, and a compass in hopes of finding his way through the woods but has little luck, especially since the recent snowfall has covered all tracks. He does manage to keep from going in circles but is sadly still lost. The temperature is well below freezing and the wind is blowing. All of this is wearing heavily on Maurice's health. Maurice has a fit of coughing then sneezes heavily

MAURICE
Oh my chest!

He looks forward along the trail he's following and sighs.

MAURICE(CON'T)
Can't give up though.

He trudges forward.

MAURICE (CON'T)
Have to keep going.

trudge.

MAURICE (CON'T)
Have to save Belle.

He shines his lantern down the trail hoping to spot something. Suddenly, Maurice hears a growling off to his left. He immediately faces left and sees about half a dozen Darkwolves growling at him. When he shines the lantern on them, they back up a step but continue growling. Maurice tries to back away but hears more growling behind him. He then shines the lantern all around him and sees that he is in fact surrounded by Darkwolves. He backs up again and steps on a long stick. He picks this up and, with it in his right hand and his lantern in his left, prepares to fend off the wolves to the best of his ability. He is visibly terrified. The Darkwolves close in, slowly getting used to the light. Suddenly the pack leader charges forward and springs. Maurice raises his hands more in hopes of protecting his face than warding off the wolf, but fortunately the wolf is intercepted in mid-flight by a massive clawed hand which tosses the wolf back into the forest. Maurice looks up to see the Werewolf standing in front of him tall, strong, and frightening, but before he can react in any way, the Darkwolves behind the Werewolf move in and attack. The Werewolf repeats the performance he gave back in the glen. Maurice manages to ward off any Darkwolves that come toward him until they fall to the Werewolf's claws. Finally the Darkwolves are driven off and the Werewolf releases a powerful howl to the night sky. Maurice tries to sneak away hoping the Werewolf doesn't see him. The Werewolf turns around and stalks towards him. Maurice spins around and swings the stick hard at him

MAURICE
Come on! COME ON! You won't find this old man so easy to take, you bloody-jawed monster!

The Werewolf's snarl softens and his eyes drop.  Maurice sees this and his face softens a bit, too, but he doesn't drop his guard. The Werewolf digs his front claws deep into the ground and snarls again, this time in resolve.

WEREWOLF
(Growling)
Don't worry sir, I'm not that far gone, yet.

The Werewolf stands up to his full height. He is far more intimidating but also far more human looking when he does.

WEREWOLF(CON'T)
You shouldn't be out here sir. These woods are dangerous enough without the Darkwolves and this cold has got to be painful to you.

MAURICE
That doesn't matter. I have to rescue my daughter from the beast who's imprisoned her no matter what it takes.

The resolve returns to his face. The shadows behind Maurice coalesce into Lisette. She floats about a foot above the ground with her hands glowing.

WEREWOLF
(crouches)
Get behind me, sir!

MAURICE
(puzzled)
What?

WEREWOLF
I said 'GET BEHIND ME!'

The Werewolf springs over Maurice's head and lands in the same crouch between him and Lisette.

WEREWOLF(CON'T)
(snarls and growls)
What do you want here, Lisette?!!

LISETTE
(Smiles cruelly)
Wouldn't you like to know.

Lisette lets a magical bolt fly from her left hand straight past the Werewolf at Maurice. Maurice cowers. At the last minute the Werewolf's paw snakes out and intercepts the bolt. The bolt shorts out when it strikes the paw. Lisette gasps. Maurice breathes a sigh of relief and backs into the shelter of a nearby snow-covered overhang.

LISETTE
You've found a way to block my powers!

WEREWOLF
It only makes sense. Your spell turned me into a werewolf, therefore, your spell will block any magic you throw at me.

LISETTE
(glares)
Very clever, but the spell shan't protect you from the magic of others!

A bolt of energy bursts from the crystal on Lisette's chest. This time the Werewolf leaps up allowing the bolt to pass underneath of him and strike a tree. The Werewolf springs at Lisette again. Lisette fires high trying to pick him out of the air. The Werewolf twists to avoid the bolt and is forced to land on his forelimbs and somersault a few times to avoid being hurt. Lisette fires again. The Werewolf again dodges and this time the bolt sets fire to a bush.

LISETTE
Blast you, I'll have your hide for a rug!

WEREWOLF
Promises, Promises.

LISETTE
(holding up an open hand)
Wait, it's foolish for us to fight like this. Our goals were once the same. If you hadn't betrayed me, you wouldn't be under my spell now. I'll make you an offer: help me with my new plan and I'll remove the spell. What say you?

Werewolf growls and springs at her again. she dodges

WEREWOLF
Don't waste my time with old promises. I'll not fall for the same trick twice.

LISETTE
(smiles)
Come now, You betrayed me, not the other way round. All you need do is hand that pathetic old man there over to me, and the spell shall be...

She's cut off by the Werewolf's growl. The Werewolf digs his front claws deep into the soil again, finds a rock in his hand and throws it hard at her. She dodges.

WEREWOLF
(moves in slashing with his claws. left and right.)
I'VE HEARD ALL I'M EVER GOING TO HEAR FROM YOU! I'M FINISHING YOU ONCE AND FOR ALL THIS TIME.

Lisette manages to dodge all of the Werewolves slashes as he chases her through the air. One of the Werewolves slashes manages to catch a few strands of her hair and she tires of the game.

LISETTE
A parting gift then.

She fires another magical bolt which the Werewolf easily leaps over. The bolt flies across the glen straight toward the overhang which Maurice is hiding behind. Maurice ducks and covers his head with his arms. The bolt strikes the overhang causing the snow bank on it to collapse and fall directly on Maurice. The Werewolf sees this and growls knowing he must first save the old man before he can pursue Lisette, who has already flown off <laughing> into the forest. The Werewolf rushes over to the collapsed snowbank and quickly digs Maurice out. Maurice is visibly chilled to the bone but still conscious. The Werewolf picks him up and carries him to the burning bush.

WEREWOLF
Stay here, sir. Warm yourself by this fire. I'll be back to check on you later. Right now, I want to get on her trail while it's still there. Will you be all right here by yourself for a short time?

MAURICE
I think so. Thank you and ... Good Luck friend.

The Werewolf takes off into the forest following Lisette's scent. Maurice huddles down next to the fire trying to warm himself. Maurice takes a stick from the ground and lights it in the fire. He then uses this to relight his lantern. A few seconds later, the snow in the tree above which has been melting since the fire started finally gives way, falls, and douses the fire.

MAURICE
Oh no! No!.. NO!

Maurice tries to relight the fire but it won't start. He pulls his cloak tighter around him.

MAURICE
Well, there's no point in staying  here. With a little luck, I'll find that castle within the hour.

Maurice pushes on down the trail and manages to get about fifty yards further before he finally collapses into a snowbank.

EXT. THE FOREST--NIGHT

Belle is out on Phillipe searching for her father.

BELLE
Papa!...Papa!

Finally, she finds him face down in the snowbank. They return home

EXT. THE FOREST--NIGHT

The Werewolf stalks Lisette through the forest for about a mile before the trail grows cold. The Werewolf stops and sniffs the air, then glares out into the forest.

WEREWOLF
Next time, Lisette, Next time. Better get back.

The Werewolf races back along his own trail to the place where he left Maurice. He sees the doused fire and realizes what happened.

WEREWOLF(CON'T)
Rats, I could have seen that one coming.

The Werewolf picks up Maurice's trail and follows it to the place where Belle found him. He sniffs the air

WEREWOLF(CON'T)
Hmmm, so he was found by a girl on a horse, was he? And whoever the girl was, she wasn't Lisette. She must have taken him back to town. I can't go there like this. I'd better get back to Tonnerre. I can't let them face Lisette alone.

The Werewolf turns around and races through the forest again prone to increase speed. He covers all of the countryside he'd been in since his transformation very quickly.

EXT. THE CLEARING WITH THE STREAM - NIGHT

The Werewolf stands erect and walks over to the odd hedge which separates him from the clearing where Tonnerre is. Tonnerre stamps his forelegs and prepares for the Werewolf to either change or charge.

WEREWOLF(CON'T)
I hate this part.

The Werewolf shoves his face straight down into the hedge and then rears back up howling in pain. Tonnerre steps back into a defensive stance but does not retreat. The Werewolf begins to transform again. This time back into Marcel. The transformation seems more painful this time though. When he is finally human again. Marcel stands shakily.

MARCEL
Ugh, that wolvesbane always leaves me nauseous.

Marcel walks over to the stump where his things are hidden and quickly dresses himself. He then strides across the stream and grabs Tonnerre's saddle and bridle.

MARCEL
Stand fast, old friend, Lisette is abroad tonight and we aren't her targets. She's chasing young girls and old men.

Tonnerre whinnies and stamps to let his master know that he's ready for action. Marcel saddles, bridles, and mounts his horse, wheels him around and rides him to the road.

MARCEL(CON'T)
You ready to do some traveling, partner?

The horse snorts and nods

MARCEL(CON'T)
All right then, let's go!

They take off at a good speed for the village.

EXT. THE FOREST--NIGHT

Lisette stands in the middle of her Darkwolves. Some of them are wounded.

LISETTE
Blast! I should have known better than to send incomplete Darkwolves to do this sort of thing, but, then again, I wasn't expecting Marcel to take a hand in this.

She kneels down next to the wounded wolves which are all gathered together. She places two fingers against the closest one's wound.

LISETTE(CON'T)
(voice echoes indicating a spell)
**Heal**

the wolf's wounds heal. She does this to every one of them which is wounded then floats up in front of them.

LISETTE(CON'T)
All right. Go to the forest between the village and the castle. Lay in wait there for both Marcel and the girl. They may have gotten past us once. They shan't do so again. Go.

The Darkwolves all head out to do her bidding.

Lisette heads to the village.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette arrives just in time to witness the scene in front of Belle and Maurice's home. She lands behind the trees and looks in at the scene unfolding in the yard

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

LEFOU
Get him out of here!

MAURICE
Let go of me!

GASTON has been watching from the sides, standing near D'ARQUE.

BELLE
(To D'ARQUE.)
No, you can't do this!

D'ARQUE shakes her off and walks away.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette's eyes narrow and she leans forward in interest

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

GASTON
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Poor Belle. It's a shame about your father.

BELLE
You know he's not crazy, Gaston.

GASTON
I might be able to clear up this little misunderstanding, if...

BELLE
If what?

GASTON
If you marry me.

BELLE
What?

GASTON
One little word, Belle. That's all it takes.

BELLE
Never!

GASTON
Have it your way.

He turns and walks away slowly, playing hard to get.

MAURICE
(Being thrown into the wagon.)
Belle?

She runs back into the house.

MAURICE (CON'T)
Let go of me!

BELLE Comes back out with MAGIC MIRROR.

BELLE
(She yells to the crowd. )
My father's not crazy and I can prove it! (To MIRROR) Show me the beast!

MAGIC MIRROR again shines, then produces the image of the still roaring BEAST. The crowd oohs and aahs at it.

WOMAN 1
Is it dangerous?

BELLE
(Trying to reassure her )
Oh, no. He'd never hurt anyone. Please, I know he looks vicious, but he's really kind and gentle. He's my friend.

GASTON
If I didn't know better, I'd think you had feelings for this monster.

BELLE
He's no monster, Gaston. You are!

GASTON
She's as crazy as the old man.

He grabs the MIRROR from her hand.

GASTON(CON'T)
The beast will make off with your children!

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette straightens and her eyes widen in disbelief

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

GASTON(CON'T)
He'll come after them in the night.

BELLE
No!

GASTON
We're not safe 'til his head is mounted on my wall! I say we kill the beast!

MOB cheers him and repeats the words 'kill him'.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette smiles only one second before she covers her mouth to keep from laughing out loud.

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

BEGIN SONG

MAN 1(SINGING)
We're not safe until he's dead,

MAN 2(SINGING)
He'll come stalking us at night!

WOMAN 1(SINGING)
Set to sacrifice our children to his monstrous appetite!

MAN 3(SINGING)
He'll wreak havoc on our village If we let him wander free

GASTON(SINGING)
So it's time to take some action, boys It's time to follow me!

GASTON throws a torch into a haystack, creating an instant bonfire. He begins to prance around it, warning of the dangers of the horrible BEAST.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette keeps her left hand over mouth and leans against the tree with her right. as her shoulders shake in laughter.

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

GASTON(SINGING CON'T)
Through the mist, through the woods Through the darkness and the shadows It's a nightmare but it's one exciting ride.
Say a prayer, then we're there At the drawbridge of a castle, And there's something truly terrible inside.

GASTON chases LEFOU around, mimicking a monster.

GASTON(SINGING CON'T)
It's a beast, He's got fangs, razor sharp ones Massive paws, Killer claws for the feast

MAGIC MIRROR shows the face of BEAST to LEFOU, which GASTON exaggerates about.

GASTON(SINGING CON'T)
Hear him roar, see him foam, But we're not coming home, 'Til he's dead, good and dead, kill the beast!

BELLE
(Interjecting)
No, I won't let you do this.

GASTON
If you're not with us, you're against us. Bring the old man.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

Lisette begins slapping at the air with her her right hand while still covering her mouth with her left.

EXT. THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

MAURICE
Get your hands off me!

GASTON throws them into the basement and bolts the door.

GASTON
We can't have them running off to warn the creature!

BELLE
Let us out!

GASTON
(To the CROWD )
We'll rid the village of this beast. Who's with me?

A chorus of "I am"s comes from the CROWD

MOB (SINGING)
Light your torch, mount your horse!

GASTON(SINGING)
Screw your courage to the sticking place!

MOB (SINGING)
We're counting on Gaston to lead the way! Through a mist, to a wood, Where within a haunted castle, Something's lurking that you don't see every day!

GASTON leads the MOB through the town and out into the forest.

EXT. A GROVE OF TREES ON THE EDGE OF THE YARD BEFORE MAURICE AND BELLE'S COTTAGE - NIGHT

It's not until after Gaston has led the mob out of the village that Lisette finally allows her <laughter> to peel forth. Her face settles into a look of cruel glee.

LISETTE
This I absolutely must see.

She floats off in the direction of the castle.

EXT. THE VILLAGE--NIGHT

Marcel rides into the village. He hears a ruckus and dismounts Tonnerre in preparation to investigate. Maurice races out of his house with an armful of gadgets and runs, quite literally, into Marcel.

MARCEL
I'm sorry, sir. Are you all right?

MAURICE
No time, Stranger! I must stop that mob before they kill my daughter!

MARCEL
Mob? What mob?

MAURICE
No time to explain.

He races past Marcel to his wagon and realizes that he doesn't have a horse.

MAURICE(CON'T)
AAArrgh!!

MARCEL
(Smiles)
Need someone to pull the cart?

MAURICE
(Despairing)
Yes sir.

Marcel whistles loudly to summons Tonnerre who comes galloping in.

MARCEL
This is Tonnerre. We'd be willing to help if you'd be willing to tell us what this is all about.

MAURICE
Oh, Thank you, sir, Thank you!!

Marcel hitches Tonnerre to the cart and helps Maurice into the seat. He sits down beside him and shouts Tonnerre into motion.

MARCEL
So, what's this all about?

MAURICE
Well, there's an ench-
(thinking better of it)
um... a castle in the center of the forest where... um.. a friend of my daughters lives and because her friend is...er... rather strange looking, the villagers have set out to kill him. My daughter set out on our horse to try and stop them. I'm afraid they'll kill her, too.

MARCEL
(Visibly worried)
This wouldn't perchance be an enchanted castle with a huge beast living in it, would it?

MAURICE
Well... Uh.

MARCEL
Blast it! I was hoping I'd get here before something like this happened!
(He whips the reins)
Hyah!

MAURICE
You know about all this?

MARCEL
Far more than anyone should know, sir, now hang on!!

(Possible song cue)

Marcel whips the reins as hard as he can and drives Tonnerre into a hard gallop then steers the wagon off the road and through some underbrush.

MAURICE
You're driving off the road!

MARCEL
Not to worry, sir.

The brush becomes a path which is easily wide enough for a wagon and quite obviously long overgrown.

MARCEL
This old road was here ten years ago.

MAURICE
(Incredulous)
Yes, I think I remember it.

The two drive on and easily outdistance Belle but just as they are in sight of the castle, the road comes to an abrupt end in a deep and wide ravine.

EXT. THE RAVINE--NIGHT

MARCEL
Drat! I should have known this old bridge would be out. We'll have to go around.

Maurice tugs on Marcel's cloak and points to the bushes surrounding them which are moving, growling, and full of burning yellow eyes and one pair of red eyes.

MAURICE
Look, It's those terrible wolves again!

MARCEL
Not just any wolves, sir. Darkwolves! They serve the Shadowforces.

Marcel draws his sword and cuts Tonnerre's harness

MARCEL
Are up to this, old friend?

Tonnerre whinnies loudly and kicks his forelegs to let them know that he is still strong enough despite the long run

MARCEL
What about you, sir?

MAURICE
I suppose I'll have to be.

The Darkwolves begin to close in. There are at least three dozen of them. Marcel and Maurice set their backs to Tonnerre who stands tall, strong, and ready to fight. Maurice pulls out a couple of gadgets which while functional, were obviously not built for combat. Marcel draws his sword and bayonet but leaves his pistols holstered as he doesn't believe they'll help against Darkwolves. The Darkwolves move in snapping viciously. One Darkwolf charges and leaps straight for Marcel's throat. Marcel strikes down with his sword hard with a blow that would easily have cleaved the thing in two, but the minute the sword meets the wolf, the wolf vanishes in a puff of black smoke. Marcel sees this and grins. Meanwhile, Maurice is fiddling with a device that looks much like a wind-up motor attached to a long stick with a steel fan on the other end. Any Darkwolves foolish enough to attack Tonnerre receive either front or rear hooves in their faces for it. Maurice gets his device wound and flicks a switch causing the fan blades to spin. He swings this at the Darkwolves like a sword. Whenever he connects, the wolves again disappear in cloud of smoke. The battle proceeds in this fashion causing a huge ruckus, a ruckus which catches the attention of Belle who is riding along the newer road as fast as she can. She races through the brush hoping that she has caught up with the mob. She instead finds her father and a stranger finishing off the last of the  Darkwolves. Marcel finishing off the last wolf.

MARCEL
Whew! Poor craftsmanship, eh sir! Ha!

BELLE
(aghast)
Papa! How did you get ahead of me?!

MAURICE
Belle! Oh, thank Goodness!

He rushes over to her

MAURICE(CON'T)
This gentleman here knew where an old road was and his horse hauled us all the way here.

MARCEL
That's right, Mademoiselle. Now if you hurry down this hill
(pointing to the incline off to the side of the old bridge)
cross the river, and follow the path on the other side, it will bring you straight to the castle's gate. My friend and I can't get much closer to there because the spell will keep us out. You'll have to hurry.

MAURICE
Thank you very much sir!

MARCEL
Good luck sir, and HURRY!

He slaps Phillipe on the rump spurring him into a trot.

Belle guides him down the hill and into the stream.

From this point the script mirrors that of Beauty and the Beast from the point where Belle and her father are riding through the stream.

EXT. THE RAVINE--NIGHT

MARCEL
Looks like all we can do is watch, old friend.

Tonnerre snorts.

They both stand at the head of the old bridge and watch as the mob is driven off, Gaston attacks the Beast, the rain starts, Belle rides in calling for Gaston to hold, the Beast and Gaston fight, Gaston tries to kill the Beast, and Belle saves the Beast and breaks the spell.

A soaked Marcel's jaw drops as he watches the spell break.

MARCEL
I'll be damned. She actually broke ....

A drenched Tonnerre nods in astonishment. Marcel begins to laugh.
Once Upon a Time....
.... a selfish and unkind prince angered an enchantress who
called a curse down upon him and his house. The prince was
transformed into a hideous beast and his retainers each became a
certain part of the castle in which they all lived. The curse could
not be lifted until the prince grew to love another and that other
returned his love. For ten long years, those in castle suffered under this curse.
Redemption finally came in the form of a scholarly peasant
girl by the name of Belle whose love finally freed both the Beast and his retainers from the curse which had oppressed them for so long. Sadly, the story did not end there.
In the midst of 17th century France, Marcel de Maitre, an old friend of the Prince from out of his past, comes with dire warnings. When the Enchantress cast the spell, she had unwittingly attracted the attention of magical forces both good and evil: forces which had been waging a silent war for a place in the world with the human race for centuries. She, the Prince, and other humans like them had placed an opportunity before the forces of Darkness and as the forces of Light moved to counter them, Belle, the Prince, and all their friends will soon find themselves in the center of a conflict of epic proportions.
This is the story of how the curse came to be and, following
its dissolution, the culmination of the conflict between light and
darkness...

hmm i like the idea of in between stories. this was one of my favorite disney films and i love how you wrote this as like an in-between/behind the scenes concept.
I have set some imaginative expectations of Marcel hahaha but i can't wait to be surprised as i keep reading.
